In this blog article, I want to tell you my story, how my team and I are now flying Red Cinema cameras for the biggest brands in the world, and what my personal hurdles were.
How I started
My name is Jens and exactly three years ago I discovered the first FPV clip on social media and immediately wondered how you can fly something like that with a normal drone - namely not at all. In this blog article, I want to tell you my story, how my team and I are now flying Red Cinema cameras for the biggest brands in the world, and what my personal hurdles were.
At the beginning of 2020, there was hardly any video or help for building an FPV drone. After 3 months of using an FPV simulator and 2 months of building, I finally finished my first FPV drone. Excited to fly my first self-built FPV drone and wondering which crazy shots I could create, my first shot ended up flying straight into a wall. So I was back at the beginning. And trust me, the FPV game is very time-consuming and costly, bringing a lot of endurance. But I can recommend one thing:
Never give up!
In the meantime, I own 15 drones including 4 Cinelifters carrying a Black Magic or a Red Komodo. Every day I test them and improve the flight performance. If you want to become a professional FPV pilot, it will be hard to do this on the side. Every day I invest several hours in further development. However, there are two entry-level FPV drones from DJI, which are super easy to fly. I would recommend these to anyone who wants to get into the FPV game. From this point, you can then decide whether it should go further.
The FPV scene is still very manageable and small, which makes FPV flying very lucrative from the business perspective. If you want to start with FPV, then you should start now. Every video you produce will be unique because of the FPV shots.
